Many times, as health care providers, one of our biggest obstacles to overcome is a patient’s pain, even long after the initial injury may have occurred. Even if your injury is quite a ways in the rear view, and all the initial signs of injury have resolved, you may find yourself stuck in a cycle of pain that is limiting your function at work, at home, and with your loved ones. Is there anything that can be done?
Trained Responses to Pain
Sometimes our bodies “learn” a painful response and our systems get “conditioned” to feel pain often to a greater level and for longer than we would like and expect based on our injury. Sometimes this leads to a chronic situation where you feel stuck in a cycle that is difficult to overcome and your pain level is not letting you get the most out of life. Maybe some healthcare providers have told you there is nothing wrong, or there is nothing else that can be done, but you know your pain is real and it can become frustrating. In these situations, we need to “retrain” your body to function at a higher level without letting pain limit you.
Take a look at the video above and see if some of this applies to you. If so, we are here to help. All of our therapists are experienced in working with patients who are not getting the most out of life due to ongoing pain symptoms. We would be happy to help you “retrain your pain” and get back to the life you want.
